Since launching the H3O website in February 2009, approximately 100 career and course information pages have been added. Wake County Public School System high school students can use this information to help plan their high school course selections. These selections may also earn them college credits while still in high school.

Following a statewide tech prep conference in 2008, Wake County Public School System and Wake Tech teamed up to address the needs of Wake County's secondary and postsecondary students by increasing awareness about college and career options.
Wake County Public School System is the largest school system in the state and the 18th largest in the nation. In 2009-10, the total number of students was 139,599. This included 40,225 high school students!
- The workforce is changing!
- The NC Employment Security Commission predicts that only 19.2% of all job openings projected through 2012 will require a four-year degree.
- There are many pathways to higher education and meaningful careers!
- Two-year associate's degrees in the arts and sciences – and now in the applied sciences too – can lead to immediate employment OR transfer to four-year institutions for advanced degrees.
- The possibilities are endless!
H3O is a college pathway program for high school students, designed to help Wake County students get ready for higher education and exciting future employment in high skill, high wage, high demand occupations.
H3O provides students with the resources they need to choose college and career options that make sense and ensure future success – and gives their parents, teachers, and counselors additional tools to help guide them.
H3O is a partnership between Wake County Public School System and Wake Technical Community College.
