First Purpose

Promote student success by providing information to stakeholders comprised of secondary and postsecondary groups including students, parents, school administrators, counselors, teachers and instructors, business and industry, military, PTA groups, community leaders, and the community at large.

  • Develop a High School to Community College Course Sequence Guide (CSG) containing a Career Matrix
  • Develop a CTP centralized website and provide CSG Train the Trainer sessions in its use
  • Create a comprehensive marketing plan
  • Create, publish, and distribute marketing and promotional materials to the target audience
  • Design a logo to identify the CTP initiative
  • Include Tech Prep information in the Career Focus magazine
  • Expand distribution of NC Career Outlook Handbook
 

Second Purpose

Development of CTP programs that meet academic standards, enhance CTE pathways, offer innovative curriculum, link secondary and two-year postsecondary education, use work-based learning, and use educational technology and distance learning.

  • Study the feasibility of expanding the piloting of COMPASS tests to all ninth or tenth grade students and develop timeline on moving the initiative forward
  • Enhance Xtreme Beginnings career exploration/preparation event for tenth through twelfth grades
  • Enhance Great Xplorations Career Fair available to ninth and tenth graders
  • Form articulation teams to review curriculum
  • Create a comprehensive local articulation agreement and make students aware of earned articulated credit
  • Increase enrollment in Future For Kids at the secondary and Pipeline at the postsecondary level to increase student career awareness and planning
  • Review the work-based learning programs including apprenticeship and cooperative education programs
 

Third Purpose

Include high quality in-service training for secondary and postsecondary faculty and staff that joins both groups in common professional development activities, ensuring teachers and administrators stay current with the needs and expectations of business, applied learning, and the application of technology.

  • Plan and implement CTP Conference, Applied Learning Institute, College Road Show, and Saturday College Day
  • Network with Business Alliance Coordinator and Career Pathway Employment Team (CPET) Coordinator for collaborating with business and industry groups
  • Study Wake County labor market data for use in discussions with business and industry
  • Sponsor training for teachers and instructors in specialized technology programs
  • Offer specialized workshops for high school teachers taught by Wake Tech instructors
  • Train in new CTP website for both secondary and postsecondary faculty
  • Enhance and expand onsite visits from Wake Tech to all high schools
 

Fouth Purpose

Include training programs for secondary and postsecondary counselors to enable them to provide accurate information to students, ensure students' successful completion of career pathways, support student progress, provide employment information, ensure appropriate student employment, and stay current with all aspects of business and industry.

  • Network with Public Relations Director at Wake Tech and Communications Office at WCPSS for full exposure of CTPM
  • Offer mini seminars and other professional development activities for secondary and postsecondary counselors by the CSG Trainers
  • Offer program area tours for secondary counselors within their own high school
  • Encourage activities to involve parents in understanding the CTP initiative during the Saturday College Day
  • Conduct a Business and Industry Forum to orient counselors to employment needs
  • Develop CTP PLC representing WCPSS areas
  • Encourage secondary and postsecondary counselor attendance at CTP state conference
  • Encourage secondary and postsecondary counselors attendance at Xtreme Beginnings and Great Xplorations for the purpose of orientation to the current workforce needs
 

Fifth Purpose

Provide equal access to the full range of technical preparation programs and development of CTP program services appropriate to the needs of special populations.

  • Develop specialized tours of secondary and postsecondary CTP facilities
  • Create networking opportunities for secondary and postsecondary teachers of special populations
  • Create high school senior checklist for entry into Wake Tech, including criteria for special needs identification initiating services and support at Wake Tech upon entry
  • Create a plan to continue special populations services at Wake Tech based on federal guidelines
 

Sixth Purpose

Provide preparatory services assisting participants in CTP programs.

  • Replicate "WRITE the RIGHT" job preparation curriculum
  • Increase attendance at the High School Student Open House at Wake Tech
  • Increase attendance at fall Health Science campus Open House
